What made the 35mm f/2 so good in low light was the IS. This lens is/was one of the sharpest 35mm lenses ever made for the Canon EF mount, IMHO. The 35mm focal length is one of my favorites for general photography indoors. I prefer a 50mm focal length outdoors. I think you will be very pleased with the EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. It is very sharp.
